Introit

O send out thy light and thy truth

O send out thy light and thy truth that they may lead me and bring unto thy holy hill and to thy dwelling

Text: Psalm 43 3
Music: George Thalben-Ball 1896-1987

Processional Hymn

The Lord's my Shepherd, I'll not want:
He makes me down to lie
in pastures green: he leadeth me
the quiet waters by.

My soul he doth restore again,
and me to walk doth make
within the paths of righteousness,
e'en for his own name's sake.

Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale,
yet will I fear none ill;
for thou art with me, and thy rod
and staff me comfort still.

My table thou hast furnishèd
in presence of my foes;
my head thou dost with oil anoint,
and my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life
shall surely follow me;
and in God's house for evermore
my dwelling-place shall be.

Text: Psalm 23 The Scottish Psalter 1929
Tune: Wiltshire CH4 14 (iii) George T Smart 1776-1867

Invitation

Confession

Living God, we have sinned against you and one another, in thought, word and deed. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Declaration of forgiveness

Gloria patri sung by the choir (Ridout)

First Lesson   Philippians 4 1-9

Metrical Psalm

Give praise and thanks unto the Lord,
for bountiful is he;
his tender mercy doth endure
unto eternity.

God's mighty works who can express?
or shew forth all his praise?
Blessed are they that judgment keep
and justly do always.

Remember me, Lord, with that love
which thou to thine dost bear;
with thy salvation, O my God,
to visit me draw near:

That I thy chosen's good may see,
and in their joy rejoice;
and may with thine inheritance
triumph with cheerful voice.

Text: Psalm 106 1-5 Scottish Psalter 1929
Tune: Dunfermline Melody from Scottish Psalter 1615

The Gospel    St Matthew 22 1-14

The Sermon

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried:
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
The Holy Catholic Church;
The Communion of Saints;
The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body,
And the Life everlasting.

The Offering

The Intercessions

Gloria in Excelsis sung by the choir

Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, goodwill towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son Jesu Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.

For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Missa Sancti Margaretae Gabriel Jackson

Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you
And also with you

Lift up your hearts
We lift them to the Lord

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
It is right to give our thanks and praise

Prayer

Sanctus

Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God of Hosts,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Blessed is he that comes in the Name of the Lord:
Hosanna in the highest.

Prayer

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Agnus Dei

Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Grant us your peace.

Holy Communion

During Communion the Choir sings

Agnus Dei

O Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us.
O Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us.
O Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world, grant us your peace.

Music: Gabriel Jackson b.1962

Prayer

Hymn

Eternal ruler of the ceaseless round
of circling planets singing on their way;
guide of the nations from the night profound
into the glory of the perfect day;
rule in our hearts, and keep us ever true,
directed, strengthened and upheld by you.

We are your own, the children of your love,
your family, with your beloved Son;
come to us, Holy Spirit, like a dove,
and fill our hearts that we may be as one:
as one with you, our comforter and friend;
as one with him, our way, our life, our end.

We would be one in hatred of all wrong,
one in our love of all things kind and fair,
one with the joy that finds a voice in song
one with the grief that trembles into prayer,
one in the power that sets us free from fear
to follow truth, and so to find you near.
