Introit

Holy is the true light

Holy is the True Light,
and passing wonderful,
lending radiance to them that endured
in the heat of the conflict.
From Christ they inherit
a home of unfading splendour,
wherein they rejoice with gladness evermore.
Alleluia!

Text: from the Salisbury Diurnal
Music: William Harris 1883-1973

Processional Hymn

Stand up, and bless the Lord,
all people now rejoice;
stand up and bless the Lord your God
with heart and soul and voice.

Though high above all praise,
above all blessing high,
who would not fear his holy Name,
give thanks and glorify?

O for the living flame
from his own altar brought,
to touch our lips, our minds inspire,
and wing to heaven our thought!

God is our strength and song,
and his salvation ours;
then be his love in Christ proclaimed
with all our ransomed powers.

Stand up, and bless the Lord,
the Lord your God adore;
stand up, and bless his glorious name,
both now and evermore.

Text: James Montgomery (1771-1854)
Music: Carlisle CH4 202 Melody Charles Lockhart (1745-1815)

Bidding

Prayer

Collect

Almighty God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and sent into our hearts the Spirit of your Son. Give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service, that all people may know the glorious liberty of the children of God; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

First Lesson    Isaiah 56 1, 6-8

The Choir Sings Psalm 67

God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us;
That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.
O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth.
Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.
Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.
God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

Second Lesson    St Matthew 15 22-28

Hymn

Isaiah the prophet has written of old
how God's new creation shall come.
Instead of the thorn tree, the fir tree shall grow;
and the wolf shall lie down with the lamb, the lamb,
the wolf shall lie down with the lamb.

The mountains and hills shall break forth into song,
the peoples be led forth in peace,
the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of God
as the waters cover the sea, the sea,
as the waters cover the sea.

Yet nations still prey on the meek of the world,
and conflict turns parent from child.
Your people despoil all the sweetness of earth,
and the brier and the thorn tree grow wild, grow wild,
the brier and the thorn tree grow wild.

God, bring to fruition your will for the earth,
that no one shall hurt or destroy,
that wisdom and justice shall reign in the land
and your people shall go forth in joy, in joy,
your people shall go forth in joy

The Sermon

Anthem

O clap your hands

O, clap your hands, all ye people; Shout unto God with the voice of triumph.
For the Lord most high is terrible; He is a great King over all the earth.
God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the King of all the earth; sing ye praises, everyone that hath understanding.
God reigneth over the heathen, God sitteth upon the throne of His holiness.
Sing praises unto our King, Sing praises, Sing praises.

Text: from Psalm 47
Music: Ralph Vaughan Williams 1872-1958

The Offering

Prayer

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Hymn

May the mind of Christ my Saviour
live in me from day to day,
by his love and power controlling
all I do or say.

May the word of God dwell richly
in my heart from hour to hour,
so that all may see I triumph
only through his power.

May the peace of God my Father
in my life for ever reign;
that I may be calm to comfort
those in grief, or pain.

May the love of Jesus fill me,
as the waters fill the sea;
him exalting, self denying,
this is victory.

May I run the race before me,
strong and brave to face the foe,
drawing all my strength from Jesus
as I onward go.
