Covid-19 (Coronavirus)

St Giles’ Cathedral Covid-19 (Coronavirus) current advice and information:

Advice for worshippers and visitors to St Giles’ 13.5.20

A Message from The Minister:

Members and friends of St. Giles’ Cathedral.

We find ourselves in the midst of a Lenten season unlike any we have known. With the country on lockdown I found this prayer from Durham Cathedral to be thoughtful and helpful

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy
in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support the anxious and fearful,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may rejoice in your comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As we have had to close the Cathedral to visitors and worshippers and cancelled Sunday Services because of the COVID19 onset, we are keen to stay in touch with each other in ways that we can. If you are in need of pastoral care please phone the Minister on 0131 556-1314 or email at

We are working on ways we can utilise the internet for contact and worship opportunities and you can access the Church of Scotland’s list of congregations which offer online worship here – – A trusted source for online worship is our Edinburgh neighbour, Greenbank Parish Church –

In place of public worship the Cathedral ministers are offering a Sunday devotion which will be available online, along with streamed hymns and sacred music.

While this is a time of great concern over the health of all people it is also a time to be as kind as we possibly can be to each other.

Keep strong, keep safe and keep the faith.

On behalf of us all at St. Giles’,

Your Minister,

Calum I MacLeod
St. Giles’ Cathedral
