Voices West is an auditioned, all volunteer community choir with a nearly 50-year history in Colorado.

The group was formed in 1978 as the Littleton Choral Society to give talented community members a chance to work together to present choral works in Arapahoe County. As the choir grew, the name was changed to The Littleton Chorale in 1998.

In 2013, to reflect the fact that our choir members and audiences are now drawn from communities up and down the Front Range, our name was changed to Voices West.

With a 65+ member roster including a wide range of avocational singers from all professions and walks of life, we offer 4-5 major concert programs and several other notable performances throughout each year.

Our smaller auditioned ensemble, Summit Sound, brings additional performances deeper into the community by performing at senior centers, schools, community celebrations, and other gatherings and events.

In all initiatives, we hold to our singular focus of delivering the highest standards of vocal excellence as we fulfil our mission:

To bring hope and contribute to the well-being and vitality of our community with beautiful, diverse, and inspirational choral music experiences;

London Concertante: Four Seasons & The Lark Ascending

London Concertante: Four Seasons & The Lark Ascending

Experience breath-taking music by some of classical music’s greatest composers, performed by some of the country’s finest classical musicians, all presented in stunning candlelight.

Programme to include:
Mozart – Overture to The Marriage of Figaro
Vaughan Williams – The Lark Ascending
Vivaldi – The Four Seasons

At the heart of the concert is Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, the most recorded work in classical music and a defining showpiece for solo violin. Each concerto depicts a different season, shaped by accompanying poems – possibly written by Vivaldi himself. Across the four concertos, Vivaldi transforms the natural world into vivid musical scenes, evoking birdsong and buzzing flies, harvest celebrations, drunken revellers, barking dogs, summer storms and winter ice.

Alongside this, Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, composed on the eve of the First World War, offers a more reflective perspective. Inspired by George Meredith’s poem, it captures a pastoral world on the brink of change, its soaring violin line suggesting a lark gliding high above the mechanised world below, “lost on his aerial rings / In light, and then the fancy sings.”

Opening the programme we have Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, an opera drawn from Beaumarchais’ recently banned comedy, in which a philandering count attempts to seduce his servant’s fiancée, only to be outmanoeuvred by the servants and his own long-suffering wife.

Whether you’re already in the know or completely new to classical music, this is a programme to be enjoyed by all.

London Concertante: Romantic Viennese Waltzes by Candlelight

This programme celebrates the elegance, charm and sheer joy of the Viennese tradition with a dazzling programme of orchestral favourites.

Programme:
Strauss II – Overture to Die Fledermaus
Strauss II – Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka
Shostakovich – Waltz No. 2
Sibelius – Valse triste
Tchaikovsky – Waltz from The Sleeping Beauty

Schubert – Ständchen
Brahms – Hungarian Dance No. 5
Kreisler – Marche miniature viennoise

Tchaikovsky – Selections from The Nutcracker
Strauss II – The Blue Danube

At its heart is the music of Johann Strauss II, the “Waltz King”, whose works capture the wit, sparkle and irresistible energy of 19th-century Vienna. From the effervescent Die Fledermaus Overture to the playful Tritsch-Tratsch Polka — a lively musical portrait of gossip — his music is full of colour, humour and sparkling melody. The programme culminates in The Blue Danube, one of the most famous waltzes ever written: an unofficial anthem of Vienna and a piece that has enchanted audiences for generations, from grand ballrooms to the silver screen in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Alongside Strauss, Tchaikovsky brings a touch of magic with music from his beloved ballets. The graceful Waltz from The Sleeping Beauty shimmers with fairy-tale elegance, while the much-loved Nutcracker Suite features some of the most recognisable music ever written — from the delicate, sparkling “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” to the sweeping beauty of the “Waltz of the Flowers”.

Completing the programme, Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5 bursts with fiery energy and rhythmic flair, bringing a thrilling contrast with its bold shifts in mood and tempo.

Full of elegance, warmth and exhilarating musical colour, this is a concert to lift the spirits and delight audiences of all ages.

Gifford Lectures 2026: Lecture 6 - The Conversions of Christianity

How did Christianity become global? Join Paula Fredriksen for six fascinating lectures on its early rise.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE GIFFORD LECTURES ARE TAKING PLACE IN THE UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH INFORMATICS FORUM - NOT INSIDE ST GILES’ CATHEDRAL

Conversions of Christianity
In its earliest form, belief in the coming Kingdom of God emerged within late Second Temple Judaism. Yet within a few generations, this message spread far beyond its Jewish roots, forming predominantly Gentile movements and reshaping ideas of belief, power, and identity. How did “orthodoxy” emerge, and with what political and social consequences? How did one god come to dominate an empire filled with many gods? Across six lectures, this series traces Christianity’s dramatic transformation—from a small Jewish messianic movement to a force at the heart of the late Roman state—by situating it within the vibrant religious, cultural, and political world of the ancient Mediterranean.

Paula Fredriksen is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Aurelio Professor of Scripture emerita at Boston University. She is also Distinguished Visiting Professor emerita in the Department of Comparative Religions at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2018.

Educated at Wellesley College, Oxford University, and Princeton University, Fredriksen is a leading historian of ancient Christianity and the Roman world. Her scholarship explores the social and intellectual history of early Christianity and the complex relations between pagans, Jews, and Christians in the Roman Empire.

Gifford Lectures 2026: Lecture 4 - THE END, and NEW BEGINNINGS
