Scripture Sentences and Call to Worship
To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in you I trust; do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.
Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame; let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.
Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!
Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and one another, in thought, word and deed. Of your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Declaration of Pardon
First Lesson Genesis 9 8-17
Music for Reflection
Ich folge Christo nach BWV 12
With Jesus will I go,
nor suffer Him to leave me,
through life, in weal and woe,
until the grave receive me.
To Jesus’ cross I cleave,
from Him will naught divide me.
Him will I never leave,
but keep Him close beside me.
Text: Salomon Franck (1659-1725)
Music: J.S.Bach (1685-1750)
Second Lesson St Mark 1 9-15
Turn Thee unto me O Lord
Turn Thee unto me, O Lord: O Lord, have mercy upon me, for I am desolate and in misery.
The sorrows of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my troubles.
Look upon my adversity: and forgive me all my sin.
O keep my soul and deliver me: let me not be confounded, for I have put my trust in Thee.
Text: Psalm 25 15-17, 19
Music: William Boyce (1711-1779)
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried:
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
The Holy Catholic Church;
The Communion of Saints;
The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body,
And the Life everlasting.
Prayers of Intercession
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
The Song of Simeon
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace :
according to thy word.
For mine eyes have seen :
Which thou hast prepared :
before the face of all people;
To be a light to lighten the Gentiles :
and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son :
and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be :
world without end. Amen.
