Tuesday 14th December

Today we look back at the construction of the window above the west door, the Burns’ window. In tribute to Robert Burns’, Icelandic stained glass artist Leifur Breidfjord was commissioned to create a window as a tribute to Scotland’s most famous writer and poet. Inspired by the themes of Burn’s work, Breidfjord created a window that celebrates nature and the brotherhood of man, through vibrant colours and abstracted shapes. Installed in 1985 it is one of St Giles’ newest stained glass window, though it sits comfortably alongside St Giles’ older windows.
