Jesu, the very thought of thee
Jesus, the very thought of Thee
With sweetness fills my breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
And in Thy presence rest.

Processional Hymn
The God of Abraham praise
who reigns enthroned above,
Ancient of everlasting Days,
and God of love:
Jehovah, great I AM,
by earth and heaven confessed;
I bow, and bless the sacred name
for ever blest.
The God of Abraham praise,
at whose supreme command
from earth I rise, and seek the joys
at his right hand:
I all on earth forsake,
its wisdom, fame and power;
and him my only portion make,
my shield and tower.
He by himself hath sworn,
I on his oath depend:
I shall, on eagles' wings upborne,
to heaven ascend;
I shall behold his face,
I shall his power adore
and sing the wonders of his grace
for evermore.
There dwells the Lord our King,
the Lord our Righteousness,
triumphant o'er the world and sin,
the Prince of Peace:
on Zion's sacred height
his kingdom he maintains,
and glorious with his saints in light
for ever reigns.
The whole triumphant host
give thanks to God on high;
'Hail, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost',
they ever cry:
Hail, Abraham's God, and mine,
I join the heavenly praise,
all might and majesty are Thine,
through endless days.

Invitation
Confession
God of Grace, forgive us when we invest our lives in the riches of this world, imagining that these could endow us with safety and security. Uncurl our fingers from all that we cling to, that we may reach out to embrace the hope and forgiveness, advanced by your love in Jesus Christ our Lord.

First Lesson Job 23 1-9, 16-17
Metrical Psalm
My God, my God, O why have you
forsaken and abandoned me?
Why are you far from giving help,
from listening to my anguished plea?
My God, I cry to you by day;
you do not hear when I complain.
I call to you throughout the night;
in silence I cannot remain.
Yet you are holy; on the praise
of Israel you are enthroned.
In you our fathers put their trust;
they trusted, and were not disowned.
They called, and you delivered them;
you listened to them when they cried.
Our fathers were not put to shame,
because on you they had relied.

The Sermon
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried:
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
The Holy Catholic Church;
The Communion of Saints;
The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body,
And the Life everlasting. Amen.
The Offering
The Intercessions
Gloria in Excelsis sung by the choir
Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, goodwill towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.
O Lord, the only-begotten Son Jesu Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.
For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Missa brevis Richard Rodney Bennett
Thanksgiving
The Lord be with you
And also with you
Lift up your hearts
We lift them to the Lord
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
It is right to give our thanks and praise
Prayer
Sanctus
Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God of Hosts,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Glory be to you, O Lord Most High.
Blessed is he that comes in the Name of the Lord:
Hosanna in the highest.
Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
Agnus Dei
Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Grant us your peace.
Holy Communion
During Communion the Choir sings
Tantum ergo sacramentum
Therefore we before him bending,
This great sacrament revere:
Types and shadows have their ending,
For the newer rite is here;
Faith, our outward sense befriending,
Makes the inward vision clear.
Glory let us give and blessing
To the Father and the Son,
Honour, might and praise addressing,
While eternal ages run;
Ever too his love confessing,
Who, from both, with both is one.
Amen

The Peace
Prayer
Hymn
Shout for joy! The Lord has let us feast;
heaven's own fare has fed the last and least;
Christ's own peace is shared again on earth;
God the Spirit fills us with new worth.
No more doubting, no more senseless dread:
God's good self has graced our wine and bread;
all the wonder heaven has kept in store
now is ours to keep for evermore.
Celebrate with saints who dine on high,
witnesses that love can never die.
"Hallelujah!" - thus their voices ring:
nothing less in gratitude we bring.
Praise the Maker, praise the Maker's Son,
praise the Spirit - three yet ever one;
praise the God whose food and friends avow
heaven starts here! The kingdom beckons now!
