Introit

Make me a clean heart O God

Make me a clean heart O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.

Music: George Thalben-Ball 1896-1987

Processional Hymn

God is love: let heaven adore him;
God is love: let earth rejoice;
let creation sing before him,
and exalt him with one voice.
He who laid the earth's foundation,
he who spread the heavens above,
he who breathes through all creation,
God is love, eternal love.

God is love: and is enfolding
all the world in one embrace;
with unfailing grasp is holding
every child of every race.
And when human hearts are breaking
under sorrow's iron rod,
then they find that selfsame aching
deep within the heart of God.

God is love, and though with blindness
sin afflicts the souls of all,
God's eternal loving-kindness
holds and guides us when we fall.
Sin and death and hell shall never
o'er us final triumph gain;
God is love, so love for ever
o'er the universe must reign.

Text: Timothy Rees 1874-1939

Music: Abbot’s Leigh CH4 642 Cyril Vincent Taylor 1907-1991

Invitation

Confession

God of infinite love and mercy, we long to live as your people, yet we confess that we have hurt those around us by words, by actions, by indifference. We have seen your Spirit in the grand and the mighty, the impressive and the powerful yet been blind to Your work in the ordinary and every-day, the weak and the vulnerable. Grow seeds of grace, compassion and hope in our lives that we may share these with others, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Metrical Psalm

How good it is to thank you, Lord,
proclaim your name, most High;
to praise your faithfulness at dawn,
your love when night is nigh;

And on a ten-stringed instrument,
and with a harp's sweet sound,
and with the music of the lute
to make your praise abound.

For all your actions make me glad,
your works inspire my praise:
I sing for joy with all my heart
today, and all my days.

The Sermon

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

Born of the Virgin Mary,

Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, dead, and buried:

He descended into hell;

The third day he rose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,

And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;

The Holy Catholic Church;

The Communion of Saints;

The Forgiveness of sins;

The Resurrection of the body,

And the Life everlasting.

The Offering

The Intercessions

Gloria in Excelsis sung by the choir

Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, goodwill towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son Jesu Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.  Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.  Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.

For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Missa Simile est regnum Francisco Guerrero

It is right to give our thanks and praise

Prayer

Sanctus

Holy, holy, holy,

Lord God of Hosts,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Glory be to you, O Lord Most High.

Blessed is he that comes in the Name of the Lord:

Hosanna in the highest.

Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Agnus Dei

Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,

Have mercy upon us.

Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,

Have mercy upon us.

Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,

Grant us your peace.

Holy Communion

During Communion the Choir sings

O sacrum convivium

O sacred feast, at which Christ is the meat:
The memory of his passion is recalled:
The mind is filled with grace:
And a pledge of future glory is given to us.

Music: Giovanni Croce 1557-1609

The Peace

Prayer

Hymn

Father, we thank you: for you planted

your holy name within our hearts.

Knowledge and faith and life immortal

Jesus thy Son to us imparts.

Lord, you have made all for your pleasure,

you gave us food for all his days,

giving in Christ the bread eternal;

yours is the power, yours be the praise.

Watch over all your Church in mercy,

save her from evil, guard her still,

Perfect it in your love, unite her,

cleanse and conform her to your will.

As grain, once scattered on the hillsides,

was in the bread we break made one,

so may your world-wide Church be gathered

into your kingdom by your Son.
