Introit
Christ whose glory fills the sky
Christ whose glory fills the sky
fill us with radiance
and scatter the darkness from our path.
Christ, the dayspring on high,
draw near to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Text: adapted from Morning Hymn by Charles Wesley 1707-1788
Music: Andrew Carvel b.1989
Processional Hymn
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful
the Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
each little bird that sings,
he made their glowing colours,
he made their tiny wings:
The purple headed mountain,
the river running by,
the sunset and the morning
that brightens up the sky:
The cold wind in the winter,
the pleasant summer sun,
the ripe fruits in the garden,
he made them every one:
He gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God almighty,
who has made all things well:
Text: C.F.Alexander 1818-1895
Tune: All things bright and beautiful CH4 137 (i) W.H.Monk 1823-1889

Bidding
Prayer
Collect
Almighty God, you have broken the tyranny of sin and sent into our hearts the Spirit of your Son. Give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service, that all people may know the glorious liberty of the children of God; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
First Lesson 1 Kings 3 3-14
The Choir sings PSALM 111
Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.
The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.
He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.
He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.
The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.
They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.
He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
Second Lesson Ephesians 5 15-20
Hymn
The Spirit breathes upon the word,
and brings the truth to sight;
precepts and promises afford
a sanctifying light.
A glory gilds the sacred page,
majestic, like the sun:
it gives a light to every age;
it gives, but borrows none.
The hand that gave it still supplies
the gracious light and heat;
his truths upon the nations rise;
they rise, but never set.
Let everlasting thanks be thine
for such a bright display
as makes a world of darkness shine
with beams of heavenly day.
Text: William Cowper 1731-1800
Music: Belmont CH4 632 Melody by William Gardiner 1770-1853
Sermon
Anthem
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord He is God: it is He that hath made us and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. Amen.
Text: Psalm 100
Music: William Mathias 1934-1992
The Offering
Prayer
Hymn for Baptism
Holy Spirit, gift bestower,
breathe into our hearts today.
Flowing water, dove that hovers,
Holy Spirit, guide our way.
Love inspirer, joy releaser,
Spirit, take our fears away.
Reconciler, peace restorer,
move among us while we pray.
Holy Spirit, Christ proclaimer,
wisdom bringer, light our way.
Fire that dances, wind that whispers,
Holy Spirit, come today.
Ease disturber, comfort bearer,
move among us while we pray.
Truth revealer, faith confirmer,
rest within our hearts today.

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried:
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
The Holy Catholic Church;
The Communion of Saints;
The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body,
And the Life everlasting. Amen.
Holy Baptism
The Aaronic Blessing

the Lord lift up his countenance upon you
and give you peace.

Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
Hymn
Who would true valour see,
let him come hither;
one here will constant be,
come wind, come weather;
there's no discouragement
shall make him once relent
his first avowed intent
to be a pilgrim.
Whoso beset him round
with dismal stories,
do but themselves confound;
his strength the more is.
No lion can him fright;
he'll with a giant fight,
but he will have a right
to be a pilgrim.
Hobgoblin nor foul fiend
can daunt his spirit;
he knows he at the end
shall life inherit.
Then fancies fly away;
he'll not fear what men say;
he'll labour night and day
to be a pilgrim.
