Introit

O Lord, increase my faith

O Lord, increase my faith
strengthen me
and confirm me in thy true faith,
endue me with wisdom,
charity, chastity and patience
in all my adversity.
Sweet Jesus, say Amen.

Processional Hymn

O worship the King all glorious above;

O gratefully sing his power and his love;

our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days,

pavilioned in splendour and girded with praise.

O tell of his might, O sing of his grace,

whose robe is the light, whose canopy space;

his chariots of wrath the deep thunder clouds form,

and dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

The earth with its store of wonders untold,

Almighty, thy power hath founded of old;

hath stablished it fast by a changeless decree,

and round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.

Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite?

It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;

it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,

and sweetly distils in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust and feeble as frail,

in thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail;

thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,

our maker, defender, redeemer, and friend!

O measureless might, ineffable love!

While angels delight to hymn thee above,

the humbler creation, in lowlier ways,

with true adoration shall sing to thy praise.

O Lord open thou our lips

Bidding

Prayer

Collect

Living God, your Son Jesus Christ has words of eternal life. Grant that we may come to him in faith, follow him in this world, and be united with him forever in the world to come; for he lives with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

First Lesson Ephesians 6  10-20

The Choir sings PSALM 84

How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!

My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee.

Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.

O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob.

Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

Second Lesson St John 6  56-69

Hymn

Spirit of God, in all that's true I know you;
yours is the light that shines through thoughts and words.
Forgive my mind, slow as it is to read you,
my mouth so slow to speak the truth you are.

Spirit of God, in beauty I behold you;
yours is the loveliness of all that's fair.
Forgive my heart, slow as it is to love you,
my soul so slow to wonder at your grace.

Spirit of God, in all that's good I meet you;
yours is the rightness in each deed of love.
Forgive my will, slow as it is to serve you,
my feet so slow to go, my hands to do.

Spirit of God, in Jesus Christ you find me;
in Him you enter through the door of faith.
From deep within me take possession of me -
my will, my heart, my mind all matched to his.

Sermon

Anthem

Sing joyfully

Sing joyfully to God our strength; sing loud unto the God of Jacob!
Take the song, bring forth the timbrel, the pleasant harp, and the viol.
Blow the trumpet in the new moon, even in the time appointed, and at our feast day.
For this is a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.

Text: Psalm 81  1-4

Music: William Byrd c1540-1623

The Offering

Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Hymn

Lord of creation, to you be all praise!
Most mighty your working, most wondrous your ways!
Your glory and power are beyond us to tell,
and yet in the heart of the humble you dwell.

Lord of all power, I give you my will,

in joyful obedience your tasks to fulfil.

Your bondage is freedom, your service is song;

and, held in your keeping, my weakness is strong.

Lord of all wisdom, I give you my mind,

rich truth that surpasses our knowledge to find;

What eye has not seen and what ear has not heard

is taught by your Spirit and shines from your Word.

Lord of all bounty, I give you my heart;

I praise and adore you for all you impart;

your love to inflame me, your counsel to guide,

your presence to shield me, whatever betide.

Lord of all being, I give you my all;

if I should disown you, I’d stumble and fall;

but, sworn in your service your word I’ll obey,

and walk in your freedom to the end of the way.
