St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh
Midweek Devotion 20th July 2023
Led by Rev Sam Nwokoro
O give thanks to the Lord; call on his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples.
(Ps. 105: 1)
Scripture Reading (Matthew 11: 25-27)
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Reflection
There is not a burden the Lord cannot lift.
Our hope is in the Lord, the lifter up of our heads.
There is not a pain the Lord cannot heal.
Our help is in the Lord, the healer of all.
There is no brokenness the Lord cannot mend.
Our help is in the Lord, who makes us whole.
Prayer
Set us free, O Lord, the souls of your servants
from all restlessness and anxiety.
Give us your peace and power,
and so keep us that,
in all perplexity and distress,
we may abide in you,
upheld by your strength
and stayed on the rock of your faithfulness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
O God,
you are the author of peace
and lover of concord.
To know you is eternal life,
to serve you is perfect freedom.
Defend us your servants
from all assaults of our enemies;
that we may trust in your defence,
and not fear the power of any adversaries;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Blessing
The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make his face of countenance to shine upon you
May God give you his peace now and forever.
Amen.
