The renowned and award-winning girls' choir at Cologne Cathedral was founded in 1989 and has been directed by cathedral cantor Oliver Sperling since 1996. With its specific choral music, the Cologne Cathedral Girls' Choir can be heard regularly in church services and concerts in Cologne Cathedral, as well as in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, on the stage of Cologne Opera House and in other cultural institutions. As a winner of numerous prizes at German choir competitions (including 1st place in the girls‘ choir category in Weimar in 2014), the Cologne Cathedral Girls’ Choir is consistently one of the top ensembles in German choral music. Invitations to guest performances have taken the Cologne singers to numerous European countries as well as worldwide to Israel (2005), Argentina (2010), China (2016) and South Africa (2019). In 2022, the girls' choir went on a cathedral tour in Germany, and in 2023 the choir travelled to South Africa again. England and Scotland are on the programme for 2024. The girls' choir sings an a cappella programme.
